The story

Long ago, there was a princess named Yeshe Dawa, whose name means Moon of Wisdom. She was deeply devoted to helping all living beings and wished to attain enlightenment so that she could bring happiness and freedom from suffering to everyone. Many people advised her to pray to be reborn as a man, believing that a male body was better for attaining enlightenment. However, the princess made a powerful promise. She declared that she would continue to work for the benefit of all living beings and attain enlightenment in a female form. Through her great compassion, wisdom, and dedication, she eventually attained enlightenment and became known as Green Tara. Green Tara promised to help all those who sincerely called upon her for protection. She became known as a compassionate protector who acts quickly to help beings overcome danger, fear, and difficulties. Her green color symbolizes enlightened activity, energy, and the power to help others without delay.
